Our Sharing Table got off to a great start on Sunday thanks to all the kind cooks who brought in their extra produce, and all the clever cooks who adopted it!

Peggy was not fully optimistic that her awkwardly giant pumpkin would find a home. However, by the time she made it down to coffee hour, it was gone - along with almost all the other food on the sharing table, which ranged from fresh figs to potatoes to pomegranates to onions, and beyond!

Lynley had rolled up his sleeves and disembowelled the pumpkin, then distributed it in large chunks to enthusiastic parishioners. Later that day, photos of pumpkin delectables started coming in, including Marianne's pumpkin pies and Rebecca and Mitzi's pumpkin muffins (they had also made a cake!)

Peggy, in turn, had a second pumpkin at home and she tried out a stuffed pumpkin recipe that included lots of bread, cheese, garlic, bacon and cream (yum!) By the time it was cooked, however, the family had already eaten. Peggy posted it in the Lynn Valley Buy Nothing group on Facebook and within half an hour a a lovely lady named Marnie dropped by to pick it up for her supper (she later reported it had gone over very well with her husband!)

Sharing food doesn't just keep it from being wasted; it doesn't just help all of us save money; it encourages creativity and builds relationships within a community. Let's keep it going!
