What Rev. Helen says:
Well, it's official: I am now on Instagram in my capacity as a priest.
You are very welcome to follow along. I've dubbed the account @whatreverendhelensaid. It's my attempt to connect progressive Christian theology with current events.
This account grew out of an idea my parish sent me away on sabbatical thinking about. We had been discussing whether it was time to add a second service at St Clement’s. One insight that emerged at our parish council was whether the clergy might invest the energy we'd put into a second service into more online engagement.
So, here we are. As you will soon see (if you didn’t already know), I'm no Gen Z social media influencer. But I'm learning that that's kind of the point. We need more leaders, especially faith leaders, to step into the public sphere and join in brave conversations, and to make theological statements that are relevant to life today. Too often we wait until we've got the perfect wording, or the perfect understanding (or the perfect hair!). I'm convinced that what the world needs now more than perfection is presence: for us clergy to put our bodies on the line, to show up alongside people where we're needed most and to do it sooner rather than later.
Please join us at the link below. We can't wait to see you there!
