UPDATE: Thank you to North Van District councillor Jordan Back, Black Bear Pub assistant bar manager Chris Hogg and St. Clement's priest Philippa Segrave-Pride for stepping up to be our "celebrity judges" for this event! We look forward to seeing you there!

We are excited to announce a new event at Lynn Valley Day, the annual community festival that has brought people together for over 100 years.   On June 22, St. Clement’s Anglican Church is hosting a “Mocktail Mix-Off” at which teams will compete in front of celebrity judges in hopes of creating Lynn Valley’s (non-alcoholic) Drink of the Summer.

The event was prompted by St. Clement's goal to be more inclusive in the kind of hospitality it offers. "It's easy to grab a bottle from the liquor store for a BYOB event, but we know alcohol isn't an option for everyone - and there’s no denying that in general, 'less is best' for all of us when it comes to our drinking habits," say organizers. "So we are looking for a great beverage that Lynn Valleyites of all ages and stages can enjoy together at their backyard BBQs, their community events and yes, their church potlucks!"

Competitors will "mix off" in three separate categories: Community Groups, Friends/Family Teams, and Businesses. A top prize will be awarded in each of the three categories, and one of these winners will be named the Grand Prize Winner with the honour of having created Lynn Valley's Drink of the Summer. The winning drink recipes will be shared publically following the event, and by entering the Mocktail Mix-Off we are assuming the winning competitors' consent to the publicity, celebrity status and fame that will no doubt follow!

The Grand Prize will include a Sodastream package that will help keep that team's fizzy fun going all summer long.

Please see further information below. We look forward to receiving your entry form, which can be downloaded at the links below this post in either a fillable PDF or Word format. (Don't delay, there are only a handful of slots in each category!)

Event information

The Mocktail Mix-Off will take place under the big tent at Lynn Valley Park on Saturday, June 22 at 1:30 p.m. All teams are asked to report in by 1:15.

Water, ice and power will be provided. Teams are asked to bring any needed appliances and ingredients to mix your mocktail in a quantity sufficient to give a taster to each of three judges.

What will the judges be looking for?

A creative name for your drink creation, an engaging demonstration of the art of mixing your beverage, a sense of fun, and a delicious drink! There will be room to add points for special features, so if you have a recipe to offer that's novel in some way (local ingredients, low-carb, use of atypical flavours, or ??) feel free to highlight that, too! All teams are asked to submit a written copy of their drink recipe before their performance.

Deadline for entries: Friday, June 21 at 5 p.m. Registration will be closed earlier if all slots are filled, so please submit your entry asap!

Please email entries to peggy@stclementschurch.ca. Questions? Call Peggy at 604-619-5576.

A voluntary entry fee of $5 will be gratefully accepted at the event, and put toward St. Clement's support of addiction and recovery services in Lynn Valley.
