I went to writing school with a friend named Joanna, who had a wonderful mom named Signe (pronounced SEE-nah). She was a tiny Danish woman crippled by arthritis. While she was still relatively young, she had to live in a care facility, but she was determined to share the word of the Lord however she could. She would rip out pages of her Bible and gift them to staff. All I could think was what a precious gift, from a precious person.
When I joined the Scrappy Girls Quilt Club on Facebook recently, one of the first things I learned about were mini prayer quilts. And with my new Christmas-gift-to-me sewing machine at hand, I began to collect what I needed (not hard, I never throw out a scrap of fabric!), and I ordered the scripture pieces. My goal is to make and gift 100 this year, in Signe's memory.
I made a little video about my process, with some of the things you'll need and ideas I had as I went along. I hope if you can, you'll join me in sharing the good word in this fun way. I'd love to see what you make! My first 14 are headed to the Mission to Seafarers!
