North Vancouver's Laurel Cole is a community support worker at Raincity Housing, a non-profit organization that provides housing and social services to clients in Vancouver and other areas of the Lower Mainland.

Laurel put out an appeal on the North Vancouver Cares Facebook group for items that are most critical for the people who live in the Princess Rooms, a 42-room residence on Princess Avenue that helps people transition from life on the street to more permanent shelter.

We have offered to collect most-needed items at St. Clement's during Lent; people can drop off contributions during office hours or at the Open Church mornings on Lenten Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.

The greatest ongoing need is for ready-to-eat and easy-serve food; such as:

  • Pudding
  • Ensure
  • Granola bars
  • Soup
  • Fruit cups
  • Snack foods of all kinds
  • Cookies
  • Candy
  • Juice crystals
  • Instant Coffee
  • Hot chocolate
  • Tea

Pudding cups and Ensure are always in demand as some clients have dental issues that make solid food problematic.

Donations of brushes, combs and razors are also very welcome.

The organization currently has no storage space for other items such as clothing or blankets, so please direct those donations elsewhere for the moment.
