An invitation from Beth Bailey in our parish office:
1st and 3rd Saturday nights of the month
6-9 pm
St Clement’s Church’s Lower Hall
David and I appreciate and enjoy doing art of many forms, and we like to include the social aspect of sharing it with other people. Our idea to host this event first came from David wanting to be able to have a space to bring other bonsai artists to work on trees and socialize, but after some further thought, we decided that it would be more fun to open it up to everyone- both non-parishioners and parishioners- and to expand the types of art that can be done to more than bonsai.
If you don’t know, bonsai is a Japanese art form that literally means (trees or shrubs) “planted in container” but actually is much more involved. Trees and shrubs of many species can be used, and the idea is to mimic the natural beauty and structure of large trees but keep them in a miniature form. It is a lot more complicated than it seems, and a good bonsai tree takes many years and a lot of patience and care. David thinks of his trees as friends.
If you’d like to bring a small shrub or tree to work on, David or other artists could probably help you. Or you can just come to watch. If you decide that you’d like to try this hobby, David can help you to find good material.
In regards to other art forms, our thoughts are that you can bring whatever you’d like and the materials you need to do what you’d like. If you want to include others, you can, but if not, you don’t have to.
It would be nice if you could let us know if you’re coming, but if you decide to drop in at the last minute, that is also ok. Please let David know at
